What is Radial Tunnel Syndrome?
Radial tunnel syndrome is a condition that occurs when the radial nerve, which runs down the forearm and controls movement of the triceps muscle and sensation in part of the hand, becomes compressed or irritated. The radial tunnel is a space in the forearm where the radial nerve travels on the lateral portion of the elbow and above the forearm. Compression of the radial nerve within this tunnel can lead to symptoms similar to those of other conditions, such as tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome.
Common Symptoms of Radial Tunnel Syndrome Include:
-
Pain: Individuals with radial tunnel syndrome often experience a deep, aching pain in the forearm, especially near the outer part of the elbow.
-
Tenderness: The outer part of the elbow may be tender to the touch.
-
Weakness: Some individuals may notice weakness in the forearm or hand, making it challenging to grip or lift objects.
-
Radiating Pain: Pain may radiate down the forearm towards the wrist or up towards the shoulder.

How can Chiropractic care help Radial Tunnel Syndrome?
Soft tissue therapies such as extracorporeal shockwave therapy and dry needling can help reduce inflammation and pain associated. Rehabilitation and strengthening exercises can help to reduce symptoms along with neurodynamic exercises to help the radial nerve become less compressed and irritated as is travels the course of the arm.
