What are Muscle Spasms? 

Muscle spasms, also known as muscle cramps, are sudden, involuntary contractions of one or more muscles. These contractions can be brief and relatively mild, or they can be intense and painful. Muscle spasms can occur in various muscle groups throughout the body and can be caused by a variety of factors. A true muscle spasm is usually a protective mechanism to prevent further injury to an area of the body where a bone or soft tissue injury as occurred. It the body's natural mechanism.

What are the symptoms associated with muscle spasms?

Muscle spasms can vary in duration, with some lasting only a few seconds, while others can persist for several minutes or even longer. The affected muscle may become visibly hard and feel tender to the touch during a spasm. There is typically intense pain in the muscle that is spasming as well. It can be intense to the point where it hurts to move or even take a deep breath. Sometimes the pain can radiate as well.
